ROAMING

Can I use my USB modem while roaming?
Digicel USB modems are preset to block international data roaming. This is to protect you from international roaming charges which can quickly amount. However, if you wish to activate roaming on your USB modem, simply contact customer care on 441-500-5611.

Please note that while roaming, the speed you get will depend on the speed offered by the network you are roaming on and that roaming costs are an additional charge to your monthly 3G+ data plan subscription.

You will be billed per MB while roaming and the cost per MB will be set by the roaming operator. When using your Mobile Internet abroad, any usage will not come out of your allowance.

How will I be charged while roaming

The 3G/GPRS rates charged while roaming will be set as per the roaming operator. Please refer to the data roaming charges specific to your destination.

How are the data roaming charges calculated?

You will be billed per MB while roaming and the cost per MB will be set by the roaming operator.

NETWORK

What is 3G+ coverage like?

3G+ coverage is strong island wide. However, as with any network, your signal can be impacted by a range of factors such as signal strength, distance from site and number of simultaneous users.

What happens if I move in and out of 3G+ coverage area?

Not to worry, we still have a fully functioning 2G network running parallel to our 3G+ network. Your device will automatically connect to the available GPRS/EDGE network until the 3G+ network is available. The switch between networks is seamless.

USAGE ALLOWANCE

How much can I download and upload?

With our 3G+ mobile internet price plans you get either 2GB, 3.5GB or 6GB usage allowance depending on your wireless modem data plan and either 2MB, 10MB or 20MB, or Premium usage allowance depending on your smartphone data plan. Usage is calculated in Megabytes (MB) and Gigabytes (GB) - where 1GB equals 1,000MB. As an example, a typical music track is 5MB, and a 2 hour DVD quality film is 1GB. Uploading to the internet (eg. sending photos and emails) also counts towards your allowance. To see how much data you might need, try our data calculator here.

What happens I f I go over my usage limit?
Digicel allows you to go over your data limit for just a few cents per megabyte which lets you stay online for that extra bit of time you require:

Postpaid wireless modem users:
If you are on any of our 3G+ mobile broadband plans using a wireless modem, you will pay 20 cents overage for each MB of usage over the 2GB, 3.5GB or 6GB price plan usage limit.

Postpaid smartphone users:
If you are on our 3G+ mobile internet plans using a smartphone, you will pay overages for each MB of usage over your 2MB, 10MB or 20MB price plan usage limit. Users on the 2MB plan will pay $5/MB, users on the 10MB plan will pay $4/MB and users on the 20MB plan will pay $3/MB for overages.  Users on the Premium data plan are subject to the terms set out in the fair usage policy.

Prepaid customers:
Prepaid BlackBerry 3G+ data plans are unlimited but subject to the fair usage policy.

What is the Fair Usage Policy?
The Fair Usage policy, which applies to all customers using the 3G+ data network, is designed to ensure customers have a positive internet experience. The policy allows Digicel to manage excessive use by individual customers, as this can impact the general speed and reliability of the mobile internet service.
The fair usage threshold/limit for Digicel customers who have chosen the ‘Premium data plan’ for their smartphone states that Digicel cannot guarantee speeds above 128 KB/s once they have reached 350 MB of usage. If you then continue to exceed the fair usage threshold, Digicel reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate your service.

USB Modems and SIM Cards

Is the USB Modem locked to the Digicel network?

Yes. The device is locked to our network while in Bermuda. However, if you request for roaming to be turned on, your USB modem will function on other networks where Digicel has roaming agreements.

Can I share my USB modem connection with another laptop?

That depends on the kind of modem you are using. If you are using the USB modem, you may transfer your connection from laptop to laptop. In this scenario, only one laptop is connected at a time.
If you are using the WiFi modem, you can use your modem as a router and provide wireless internet connection to four other devices (laptop, desktop, smartphone, game console, etc.) in addition to the connected device. In this scenario, all five devices must be in the same vicinity. Please note, performance may be affected by concrete walls, distance from towers and number of users.

Do I need a 3G+ SIM card in Bermuda?

Existing customers:
Once you sign up for a 3G+ data plan for your smartphone, your existing SIM card will work perfectly fine with our 3G+ network. When you sign up for a 3G+ data plan on a USB modem, you will be issued a Digicel 3G+ SIM card.

New customers:

All new customers will be issued a Digicel 3G+ SIM card.

Do I need a 3G+ SIM card to roam?

If you roam overseas and wish to take your 3G access with you, we recommend you use a Digicel 3G+ SIM card. This will ensure that you have adequate coverage in markets that have 3G.
