Tomorrow’s Voices, Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre, receives much needed phone donation from Digicel Bermuda

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 – Hamilton, Bermuda. Digicel Bermuda is pleased to donate BlackBerry devices with free local voice and data services to the charity Tomorrow’s Voices, Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre.

Tomorrow’s Voices, which opened in October 2007, is designed to assist children between the ages of 2 and 21 who are diagnosed with autism or are on the autism spectrum.  Autism is characterized by severe and pervasive impairment in several areas of development: reciprocal social interaction skills, communication skills, or the presence of stereotyped (repetitive) behavior, interests, and activities.  Children attending Tomorrow’s Voices are taught critical language skills, functional activities, socialization, initiation/spontaneity and generalization of mastered concepts/skills.

“As a member of the board of this organization, I was particularly pleased that Digicel would be able to help with such a basic need,” states Digicel Bermuda CEO, Wayne Caines.  “We at Digicel are very excited to be a part of this partnership, which will enable Tomorrow’s Voices to operate more efficiently by accessing free voice and data services on donated BlackBerry devices.”

States Tomorrow’s Voices Executive Director, Dr. Kimberly Mills, “Tomorrow’s Voices is engaged in training of Government school officials, college professors and other allied health professionals. We also supply consultative services to parents in their homes and in the community. To this end, the donated phones will allow us to stay connected with our parents and clients throughout the day and night. It will also allow our therapists to stay in touch with the main centre when they are out consulting with parents, schools and agencies in the community.”
