DIGICEL’S HAITI BENEFIT CONCERT DELIVERS

Over $20.0K Raised this weekend at The Digicel Haiti Gospel benefit concert

February 10th, 2010 – Hamilton, Bermuda:  In hopes of raising a total of $100,000 for the Digicel Haiti Relief Fund, Digicel Bermuda held a heartening Gospel Benefit Concert at the Bermuda Institute School Auditorium on Saturday, February 6th, 2010. With more than 800 in attendance, the charity event was a success with over $20,000 raised in the short span of three hours.

The atmosphere in the auditorium on Saturday evening was filled with energy, optimism and inspiration. Buddy Rego shared personal experiences of his recent trip to the devastated country. John Duncan of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., was the emcee of the concert and the spiritual entertainment included acts by: Dwight Warren and Desirae Simons, Sia Spence, New Creation Liturgical Dance Team, Serenity, Kayus Dare, Grace Landy, New Season, L.A. Crew, Tatem Small, Neville Caines, McCartney Darrell, Southampton Inspirational Choir and Mass Choir & Groups. During the intermission there was a sing-off competition and all were surprised to find out how many talented people were in the audience. The crowd stayed in their seats and went wild for Jesse Seymour who performed a R&B style Gospel performance reminiscent of Chris Brown or Usher. For his impromptu performance, Mr. Seymour was the eventual winner of a new BlackBerry Storm 9700.

“Despite the bad weather we had a full house; there was not a parking spot to be found anywhere in the vicinity of the venue.  Digicel genuinely appreciates everyone’s attendance and contributions.” Wayne Caines, CEO of Digicel Bermuda said. “The benefit concert was a success in helping us raise funds to send to Haiti.”

To date, more than $40,000 has been raised for the Digicel Haiti Relief Fund. Digicel wishes to remind everyone that ‘Rise Again’ – the song written by international reggae sensation and Grammy Award-winning artist, Shaggy, to support the relief efforts – is now available on iTunes for download and purchase for 99 cents (US), with the artists and label donating their proceeds to the Digicel Haiti Relief Fund.

Digicel Bermuda would like to thank the following donors who provided goods and services to help the concert run smoothly: ATV, Barritts, Bermuda Institute, BGA, Butterfield & Vallis, Docksiders, Great Sound, Island Press, Just Platinum, Kingdom Ministries, Owen Simons and Sousa’s Landscaping. Digicel Bermuda would also like to acknowledge the following Corporate Sponsors who have contributed to this event: The Honourable Paula Cox, JP, MP, Deputy Premier of Bermuda and Minister of Finance, Bowring Marsh, Capital G, Freisenbruch-Meyer Group, Hannover Life Reinsurance, James Water Service and KeyTech Limited. Finally, Digicel would like to thank the following media sponsors for their support of the fund raising campaign: Bermuda Blueprinting, Interisland Communications, VSB Bermuda, Bermuda Broadcasting Company, the Bermuda Sun and the Royal Gazette.
