DIGICEL LAUNCHES BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER 3G+ NETWORK

Thursday, July 22nd 2010 – Hamilton, Bermuda: Digicel, Bermuda’s Bigger, Better Network, today launched its much-anticipated 3G+ network at a press conference at Washington Mall, Phase III. The state-of-the-art network is the fastest mobile broadband network in Bermuda and is underpinned by the best value offers and the best customer service from Digicel.

The Digicel 3G+ network is the first of its kind in Bermuda and is one of only 30 worldwide. 3G+ technology was introduced across the globe in late 2008 and is a significant evolution when compared to its standard 3G counterpart which is now eight years old. As such, Digicel Bermuda customers can connect wirelessly to the internet, email and other web-based applications using a 3G-enabled handset or a Digicel USB modem at speeds which are faster than any other network in Bermuda.

As well as benefitting from the fastest mobile broadband network in Bermuda, Digicel customers are also getting the best value for their money. For example, a 2GB mobile broadband plan offers double the data of any other network and a 6GB plan offers the largest monthly data package available in Bermuda. To celebrate the launch of Digicel 3G+, customers can also avail of a Digicel USB modem for as low as $45 with the purchase of a BlackBerry 9700; a single user wireless USB modem for just $69; or a WiFi wireless modem that provides data to five users simultaneously for just $139.*

Speaking at today’s launch, Digicel Bermuda CEO, Wayne Caines, said; “With the launch of our 3G+ network, Digicel customers are joining the fast lane as they now have access to a network that is bigger, better and faster than any other mobile network in Bermuda. We are using the very latest in 3G technology and have expanded our coverage right across the island.

“There is no need for a new SIM card, customers simply need to register for the 3G+ service and start browsing straight away. And for customers with an Apple iPad, we have introduced a 3G+ Micro SIM card that can be purchased in any Digicel store.”

To sign up for 3G+, customers must register for the service by emailing info.bermuda@digicelgroup.com or by visiting one of the Digicel stores on Church Street or Court Street. To help customers understand their data needs, a data calculator is available on www.digicelbermuda.com/3Gplus which will help customers choose the data plan that best suits their individual needs.

3G+ is the name used by Digicel to describe the ‘Evolved High-Speed Packet Access’ technology Digicel has deployed. This technology is also known as HSPA Evolution or HSPA+.
